Here's one wish that will make Santa Claus confused

I’m with my kids, trying to visit a Christmas exhibition, but when we get there the doors are closed.

“I’m really sorry, sir, but we had an electric failure and can’t open today.”

“I had tickets, so what happens to those?,” I ask.

“You can use them again anytime until the 5th of January.”

My girls look upset, so the lady at the door hands them some chocolate and says to Alice, my 8-year old:

“Would you like to write down a Christmas wish on a postcard and drop it here on this big mailbox?”

“Ok.”

Alice borrows a pen and starts writing. And writing. And writing.

“Are you done, baby?”

“Almost… there.”

She drops the postcard, and we start walking away.

“Can I tell you what my wish was, daddy?”

“Sure.”

“I asked for no more wars, and for everyone to be happy.”

“That’s nice, honey.”

“Yeah, I want everyone to be happy. Even poor people.”

“Ahm… what? Why did you say even poor people??”

“Because they’re not always happy, right? I don’t want just the people who are normally happy to be happy, I want that for everyone!”

“Ok, ok… that’s great. Now let me just tell you a slightly different way to say that…”

😅

Nothing to see here

This is where I usually teach you something about storytelling. How to find the point, or how to tell the story better, or maybe explain some technique I used.

But I’m writing this on Christmas Day so I feel like taking it easy 😂

And that’s ok:

Stories don’t always have to be about making a point, or moving people to action.

They can be about ““just sharing something that happened. Something that lets people know you a little more. That lets them laugh about how absurd children (and life) can be sometimes.

And now I’ll stop because this is starting to sound like an actual lesson ;-)

Merry Christmas, everyone!! 🤘
